Pfeiffer State Beach Big Sur
Pfeiffer Beach is famous for its keyhole rock formation, it’s a must-see when you visit the Big Sur area. With its dramatic rock formations and purple sand, Pfeiffer Beach is a truly unmissable spot. The further north you go, the more purple the sand gets due to a mineral being washed down the hillside of the beach. As well as its quirky color, it’s also one of California’s premier sunset spots. Once a year the sunset lines up perfectly with the keyhole. This is one of the most photographed beaches in Big Sur so it’s often VERY busy, especially on weekends and throughout the week May-August. If you are thinking about choosing Pfeiffer Beach for your Big Sur elopement I always suggest a weekday in the off-season for a beautiful experience.

If the parking is at a premium here, if the area is full, you won't be allowed to enter until other cars have left the parking lot.
It can get really windy on the coast of California and Pfeiffer Beach is no exception! Because of the location of Pfeiffer Beach, it’s often more windy than any other beach on the coast.
During winter rains, the road could be flooded, but since this part of California does not get much rain you should be OK. (but always check)
Even with the few things to be aware of this is a spot you don’t want to miss when traveling along the Big Sur Coast.
