All things Peloton // What I've learned and what I love about my Peloton Bike

Spoiler, I’m a huge Peloton fan and feel like it was the best purchase I’ve ever made for myself. So if your asking me “ is it worth it” my overwhelming answer is YES!! When I first ordered my Peloton I had no friends with one so I didn’t know the first thing about what to order and what to skip, who the best instructors were, or where I was even supposed to start! I’ve now had the bike for almost two years and ride it almost every day ( sometimes twice a day) so I’ve learned a few things that have worked for me. I started by ordering the 2 lb weights from Peloton with their shoes. I quickly learned that the shoes were terrible and uncomfortable, that there isn’t many amazing Delta-compatible clips, and that I needed heavier weights. Here is my code for 100 dollars off your own peloton purchase. PFAWP8 .

Target weights like these fit in your bike! I like the 5lbs! I am competitive by nature, so having a leaderboard on my bike is one of my favorite features! The bike and apps keep track of your personal records for 20, 30, 45, and 60-minute rides, it’s really motivating to see your output (and your friend’s) improving over time. I generally do 30-45 min rides and almost never 60 minutes. The more friends you add on peloton the better your experience! I even video chat with some friends while riding and often ride in “swarms” or groups of friends at the same time for live rides. Hitting your Century ride ( 100 rides) in the Peloton Community is always a big benchmark, and Peloton will mail you a shirt to commemorate it. I love that Peloton has THOUSANDS of on-demand rides and always has a slew of live rides. Generally, when I’m busy with work and kids I do on-demand but on weekends and shelter in place, I love live rides. There are also peloton challenges for yearly and monthly “badges”.

The shoes I currently use and love are SPD Tiems, I’ve also heard that the Shimano ones are great! I changed the pedals to these SPD ones. I was so intimidated at first to change pedals but it took literally 5 minutes and was SO easy I was mad I didn’t change them sooner. I ordered both from REI because they were on sale.

My favorite cycling instructor is CODY, I do all his rides and am constantly laughing with him. I do skip his other workouts. Emma’s core challenge is amazing, it’s a month of 5-10 min core workouts 5 days a week. By the first week my abs are always sore (I’m on my second round of this). Emma’s arms are also always good! Alex Toussant has the best hip-hop and Rap tracks, he’s really popular among professional athletes that have a peloton. See this ESPN article. Jess King is a little eccentric but over time I’ve really come to enjoy her classes, especially the Jess King experience series. When I’m in a mellow mood and just want to spin my legs, I love Ally love.

I’ve just started to do more of the floor mat exercises and the meditation portions of the app. I’m loving both!! Robyn has great floor mat exercises she kicks my butt on the bike and off (but I prefer her workouts off the bike).

The Heart rate monitor and headphones other peloton users LOVE, raving reviews!! The peloton headphones are awful as is the peloton bikes speaker, I find the best experience is with headphones but other friends ride with a wireless speaker too. I have yet to try both but they’re on my list. I suggest joining all the Facebook peloton groups, my favorite groups: Peloton moms, Peloton moms book club, and Official Peloton members page.

Lastly: once you get a Peloton you will become addicted if you’re anything like me. Peloton has a really cute online boutique, they release new gear and outfits regularly. They partner with companies like Lululemon, Athleta, Miami fit, and Nike. I suggest using your 100 dollars for fun clothes instead of the dumbbells, headphones, and shoes through the Peloton. Ask me ANY questions below!! I love talking Peloton.
