California Engagement Photography

Shawn and Sarah are getting married later this year in Oregon, and I’m so excited that they decided to include a Big Sur, California engagement session before their wedding. The session allows us to get comfortable with one another and get used to being in front of the camera. I had such a good time getting to know them both and showing them areas of the coast they hadn’t explored before. We had some of the best moody light and big waves along the Big Sur Coast.

My top tips for your California Engagement Session:

  1. Wear clothes you can easily move in! broken in jeans and sweaters you can run and jump and lay down in, dresses that look beautiful as you walk nothing that needs to be fussed with.

  2. Shoes you can walk in easily, over rocks and dirty paths, no heels if you aren’t in the city.

  3. Include something about you as a couple; do you love to play chess or drink beer together, let’s have a moment to do that!

  4. Don’t have anything in your hands so we can take photos as we move from location to location, and leave your change of clothes in the car!

  5. Be honest with your photographer about any fears, there is nothing worse than planning to be cliffside and just feeling nervous and scared the whole time.

  6. Have fun and relax, your photographer will guide you, it’s not your job to come up with prompts and poses.
